ADDY Judge Selection
Phoenix Ad Club is part of the AAF District 12 region, comprising Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Denver and Colorado Springs, Colorado; and El Paso, Texas. ADDY judges are selected from candidates who work and reside outside of our AAF District 12 states. This is to provide for impartiality and avoid any conflict of interest. ADDY Judge selection is made after a thorough and exhaustive evaluation process. Each year, our ADDY Chairs, committee members and industry leaders spend a countless number of hours researching the most qualified and respected candidates to judge our local ADDY submissions. Those selected are charged with the responsibility of judging the finest work of our industry created for our market across each of its diverse specialties — paying particular attention to the work as it relates to local competition.
This years judge search was no exception, our judges encompass proficiencies in multiple areas of expertise and represent some of the top agencies in the country to make the connections and understand how ideas and creativity can combine for powerful results. Also, due to a record number of entries this year, we have expanded our judging panel to four judges.
ADDY Judging System
The entry judging is a blind process where each judge awards an individual score for each entry using a numerical judging system entered into the National American Advertising Awards software. Judges do not confer with each other or discuss the entries during the judging process with the exception of determining special awards.
After all entry scores have been entered and tabulated, judges discuss top entries and, through consensus, decide which entry will receive the Best of Show Award and if any other entry should be granted the Special Judges Award, Art Director and Copywriter of the Year Awards.

That one sentence sums up Steve Gammel’s philosophy in leading creative teams to excellence on some of the world’s most iconic brands including Gillette, Venus, Tide, Febreze, Clairol, Duracell, Miller Lite, and more.
In the past 10 years as creative lead on Integer’s CPG businesses, Steve has fused his background in design with years of experience in shopper marketing to lead teams to work that balances high aesthetic with strategic effectiveness. Most recently, Steve has utilized his illustration background to evolve the Integer global brand into a inspirational voice throughout the TBWA network.
A Colorado native and avid athlete, Steve enjoys all things Colorado shared with his wife and three daughters.
SVP, Creative Director, Publicist Health and Wellness Group
Lori is currently a Senior Vice President, Creative Director in the Publicis Health and Wellness group in New York. Her previous experience in fashion, beauty, and image advertising on Revlon, Garnier, and Herbal Essences lends a unique perspective on communicating to women in a way that makes them participants in maintaining their health and well-being.
Over the years, Lori has created award-winning, multi-channel campaigns for a variety of iconic brands — American Express, Goodyear, U.S. Bank, AT&T, Coca-Cola, Hershey, Dr Pepper, Club Med, Godiva and more. And as a co-founder of Amster Yard, a trouble-shooting division of McCann NY, she handled the global creative on the Bacardi/Martini account.
Basically, you name it and Lori has written for it.
Lori is also the author of two children’s books, Adventures of Cow and Adventures of Cow, Too, published by Tricycle Press, an imprint of Random House.
She is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, a native of New Orleans, and a very happy resident of Harlem.
Group Creative Director, Havas Worldwide
Born and raised in Chicago’s La Villita neighborhood, Bernardo began his professional career as a graphic designer. He did his time doing corporate branding work for clients such as Bank of America, Motorola and American Airlines. Bernardo then switched to the advertising world, where he has developed work for brands like Citibank, Sears, E*TRADE .
3 years ago, Bernardo helped to launch and now leads the Havas Latino group, creating award-winning work for DishLATINO, Sears, Craftsman, AutoZone and Hefty. His focus is connecting iconic brands to the hearts and minds of the new American consumer. His work has been recognized by Effies, the New York Festival, Webbys and Shortys. His passions outside of work are his five children, competing in sanctioned ping pong tournaments and singing with mariachis every chance he gets.
