Under the direct supervision of the Enterprise Marketing Hub Senior Director of Design and the guidance of the Hub’s art directors, the designer will create a variety of communications for both Arizona State University and Sun Devil Athletics. Projects include the design of best-in-class digital ads, digital displays and other media for alumni, thought leaders and fans as appropriate to the goals of the university. Designers in the Enterprise Marketing Hub work in a fast-paced studio environment that is committed to effectively and efficiently developing communications that move our audiences. We iterate quickly and responsively, making fun design experiments, testing them with audiences and scaling the best performing designs through establishing templates, libraries and creative standards. Our creative team is highly collaborative and focused on growth, carving out time and support for ongoing learning and space for experimentation to inform our future creative decisions.
•Develops a high-level of brand expertise about ASU’s family of brands and implements the creative direction into design for digital and print materials.
•Specializes in the design of print and digital advertising, direct marketing materials, digital signage, stadium signage, social media images and designed emails that drive KPIs (Key Performance Indicators: engagement and ticket sales).
•Creates static graphics and animation designed in ways that deepen engagement with the brand.
•Employs A/B testing and other processes that lead to insights about which creative will perform best with audiences.
•Integrates data insights from tests and market performance along with feedback from collaborators to drive increasingly effective and compelling creative that resonates with audiences.
•Confers with clients, editors and marketing leads regarding project specifications to create meaningful multi-channel experiences in which each piece of creative deepens the connection between audience and the brand.
•Connects within the project management system to maintain updates, routes proofs, and record time within the system. Maintains productive communications through the system and works with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure projects are delivered on time.
Associate’s degree in Graphic Art or related field AND two years experience in graphic design and layout, illustration, or commercial art; OR, four years’ experience in graphic design and layout, illustration, or commercial art; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
•Evidence of a portfolio of print and digital design work
•Experience in human-centered, insights-driven design process, applying a user-experience design approach to all projects.
•Experience in using personas for alignment and targeting
•Evidence of effective communication visual, verbal and written skills.
•Experience in working with athletics or event design and an understanding of the dynamic, fast paced environment.
•Evidence of portfolio of work demonstrating strong formal typography and information hierarchy decision-making skills.
•Experience designing for time and across media in a user’s journey. Shows decision-making skills for the steps in a user’s engagement with the brand – from initial impressions to real life experiences to digital engagement and beyond, considering the appropriate design moves for each interaction.
•Experience in effectively establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
•Experience in managing multiple projects, using design to advance progress by proposing solutions and showing collaborators what is possible before final content or images are delivered to the designer.
•Experience in using Adobe Creative Suite (i.e., Illustrator, Photoshop and After Effects).
•Experience making static and animated digital creative across paid and unpaid media in a mobile-first environment. Particular emphasis on the design of effective digital ads, designed emails and social media as part of an aligned multi-channel campaign.
•Experience with testing and optimization of digital design deliverables.
•Experience making original photo and video content for campaigns.
•Experience in designing print materials including advertisements, billboards, lightrail wraps, banners and more.
•Experience editing photos, including the ability to silhouette images, retouch images, color correct and resize for final output.
•Experience using clearly-labeled reusable layers and other design details so that others may open and reuse files in the future for similar projects.
•Experience in using established grids, swatches, stylesheets, actions and other tools for consistent creative execution across the brand.
•Experience in aligning file management with team’s maintenance of creative assets in working file systems and archives.
•Our office is at the 4th floor of The Centerpoint, 660 S. Mill Avenue (15 minute walk form the main campus). Work will be mostly in front of a computer on a workstation, but may have instances of traveling to other offices/buildings for meetings with clients.
•Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions. Drives University vehicle and/or cart to campus site.
•May work weeknights, weekends and holidays.
